At the height of the summer season the Beartooth Mountains are awash with wildflowers. Even at the very highest elevations of the road these tenacious flowers hug the ground and create a carpet of color. Kinnikinnick goes wild along the Beartooth All-American Road

Kinnikinnick is a small trailing, evergreen shrub with dark green leaves. The bright red berries look like miniature apples and have a large hard seed.
